Former Mississippi State Defensive Coordinator Led Bulldogs to Top-Five Unit
Former Mississippi State head coach Zach Arnett has been hired as the new head football coach at Auburn University. Arnett replaces Bryan Harsin, who was fired in October after posting an overall record of 9-12 in his two seasons at the helm.
Arnett, 36, comes to Auburn after spending the past three seasons as Mississippi State's defensive coordinator. Under Arnett's leadership, the Bulldogs defense ranked among the top five in the nation in total defense, scoring defense, and passing defense in 2022.
Arnett's only previous connection to Auburn is his relationship with Athletic Director John Cohen, who previously held the same position at Mississippi State. Arnett is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and played college football at San Diego State.
Arnett is expected to be formally introduced as Auburn's head coach at a press conference on Monday.
