Breanna Stewart: A Trailblazing Basketball Superstar

Early Life and Career

Breanna Mackenzie Stewart (born August 27, 1994) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the New York Liberty in the WNBA.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Stewart began her basketball journey at Cicero-North Syracuse High School, where she led her team to two state championships and was named New York's Miss Basketball. She went on to play college basketball for the University of Connecticut, where she won four national championships and was twice named the NCAA National Player of the Year.

Professional Career

After graduating from UConn, Stewart was selected first overall by the Seattle Storm in the 2016 WNBA Draft. In her rookie season, she was named the WNBA Rookie of the Year and led the Storm to a WNBA championship. Stewart has since won a second WNBA championship with the Storm in 2020 and has been named the WNBA Most Valuable Player in 2018. She is also one of only 10 active players named to the W25, the WNBA's Top 25 most dominant players of all time.

International Success

Stewart has also had a remarkable international career. She has won three gold medals with the United States national team at the Olympics (2016, 2020) and the FIBA World Championship (2018). She is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, regardless of gender.

Recent Accomplishments

In 2023, Stewart made history by becoming the first WNBA player to capture three championships in a single year. She led the Storm to their third WNBA title, won the EuroLeague title with her Russian team, and helped Team USA win an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo.
